Matthew Stanley
Matthew Stanley was 15 years old when he was killed by a king hit in Brisbane in 2006

In the almost six years since his death, Matthew's parents, Paul and Kay, have set out to make a change. They've spoken to about 150,000 school students, set up the Matthew Stanley Foundation, established the Walk Away, Chill Out initiative, and were the driving force behind the Queensland Government's One Punch Can Kill campaign. They're sick and tired of seeing people's lives shattered by violence. And they're just as sick of the "brain snap" excuse for laying the hit in the first place.
"Did he mean to kill him? Probably not. It was probably the last thing on this mind. He just did it because he was a f...ing thug," Mr Stanley told news.com.au.
"We're trying to get some realism from the fact that people do die from these things that happen. We just continue to put the message out to people and hope that someone takes notice.
Matthew's attacker spent two-and-a-half years in prison after his murder charge was downgraded to manslaughter. Mr Stanley isn't just angry about that, he's furious. But he's channelling that heartache into something positive: He wants young people to realise they're not bulletproof.
